What's your opinion on East of Eden (and the film adaptation)?

Tell me /lit/, would you recommend this book.

Also East of Eden thread for everyone who has read it.

Does this book have a main character?

Hey /lit/, what do you think of East of Eden? Just read it and it left me with a taste for more of Steinbeck's novels. Only gripe I have with it is that the biblical stuff felt a little heavy-handed at times, but I figured that was kind of the point.

Also, any recommendations on what to read now? I was thinking maybe Cannery Row or The Grapes of Wrath.

I'm about to start reading East of Eden. I liked Of Mice and Men, what should i expect from this one?

why has no one told me how awesome this book is before? I mean it's considered a classic, but I haven't heard a word about it.

I think almost all serious readers can say that East of Eden is a wonderful work. It truly creates all characters, and none are wasted, and only one is poorly conceived (some readers claim that Kate is a cartoonish overly-evil character that seems fake with the realism of the other characters).
