1. Due to its market power, Amazon is able to negotiate higher discounts with publishers than other distributors are.
2. Since Amazon gets higher discounts, the publisher gets less money by selling its books
3. Since publishers are making less money by selling their books, either the authors of the books are making less money or fewer authors are making money from writing books

4. Therefore, if you support Amazon (that means: buy books or e-books from them), you harm the actual producers of that books (the authors and publishers).
5. If you harm the producers of books, you harm yourself, since you like reading

6. Therefore, buying books from Amazon is irrational behaviour.

Btw. that doesn't only concern books, it concerns pretty much everything. If you're buying something from Amazon which you could have bought somewhere else, you're harming the producer of that things, because the producers get less money.

tl;dr: Amazon is a parasite which became so big, it threatens to kill a lot of the producers it's parasitizing from. If you like their products, you simply shouldn't obtain them via Amazon.
