I love smut. Literotica, DeviantArt, Eka's Portal/Ayrion, AO3, F-List...the list goes on.
People don't understand the work that goes into making erotic literature. It's an entirely different skillset from erotica, which is meant for women with dusty vaginas.
Fetishes are spectacular plot devices. Their absurdity and the sheer level of suspension of disbelief necessary to place oneself in these scenarios is unprecedented.
Consider vore. It's mechanical, yet alien. Every story involving it fundamentally ends in the same manner, but rather than point this out, authors obfuscate things, try to envision worlds where what is essentially cannibalism can go unnoticed.
I used to masturbate while reading these stories, but now I just sit and read them with a big constant grin. SlutWriter is the modern Marquis de Sade. Scrolling through AO3 tags takes me back to camping out in my college's library just to delve further into the stacks.
And now I seek out the most out-there scenarios and kinks, not to get my rocks off, but because it's just fascinating. Sci-fi wishes it could have the depth of your typical gender bender fanfiction. Philosophers would have spent weeks debating the moral implications of raping a rapist who also happens to be raping a rapist.
And indeed, writing in a sexy manner, understanding the anatomy of bodies human or anthro or otherwise without a visual component, grinding and churning and likewise, takes legitimate talent. Plenty of would-be serialized authors are making smut on these places, adhering to niches of niches of niches, and it's a fascinating subculture.
