Was Schopenhauer a bitter loser trying to rationalize his failure in life, or does he have a point?

Also, whats a good book to read about him and his philosophy, excluding his own work? Some sort of solid analysis.

the "personal life" section does not mention any women and says he had a poor romantic life.

However people who get their understanding from wiki don't even read, they just skim the page, because two other places talk about his daughter who died (and whom he had out of wedlock) and how he was a known womanizer yet never "found love"

I guess there is also the modern concept that virgins are angry that might add to this myth.

Obviously I have started with the Greeks, but which of Plato's writings should I (re)read before jumping into Schopenhauer? What about Hinduism? I thought buddhism is what Schopie A was all about but there is a quote of him siting hindus as an influence
