Who /genrefiction/ here?

It's so much comfier to settle down into a world of imagination and fun, rather than a dusty old 'classic'.

>b-but the canon will make me smarter
"No!"

Sales are waning, however, I've done ZERO marketing but that's about to change. Like many authors starting out, I made the mistake of taking the Amazon KDP Select route. While yes I did get some much desired exposure, I locked myself into a 90 day exclusivity with them in trade. It's an ok arrangement but there's bigger markets out there and I'm waiting until I can get into kobo, tolino, and other providers and aggregators that will get you into the world markets. If you do your homework, Amazon is small potatoes. When the 90 days elapses, (August 20th) I'll "go wide" with the bigger providers and make a push there. Book 2 out early September.

What's /lit/'s impression of Herman Melville and his oh-so-famous book?

I love genre fiction. i love stories with swords and magic, advanced alien societies, and stories that scare me shitless

After taking a few english lit class I've realized how shitty the writing is in the majority of popular scifi, fantasy and horror novels

are there any MODERN genre fiction authors whose works could be considered "literature" or of "literary merit"?

how the hell can normies stand to read genre fiction?

you can read a tight, thought provoking 150-300 pages of literary fiction where every word feels important

or you can read a 10 book series of 700 page tiny print tomes where everything is exposition or dialogue where two of the thousands of characters argue and play mind games with each other described in excruciating detail as if the reader is too stupid to infer what's going on in a dialogue

i am genuinely impressed anyone has the attention span for this stuff, i simply cannot do it

how do you guys read?
do you read straightforward? with pauses? re-read certain sections, chapters? make pauses to research about certain historical/cultural subjects?

Is there anything inherently wrong with genre fiction?

Why would anyone read genre fiction? It'd just another way of saying derivative fiction. Why read something that's deliberately unoriginal?
