Believe it or not, Anon, some people actually can imagine incredible things.

Now, as >>20021387 says, Tolkien drew a lot from his upbringing and the subjects of his scholarship. But even so, the things he created OUT of them were extraordinary, and a sign that his imagination was truly gigantic.

As a matter of fact, some people just flat-out have better imaginations than other people, and can imagine and bring to life whole new worlds full of new ideas, new people, new concepts, and new thoughts. Imagination is talent, and some people have more of it than others.

This. Write an epic, Anon. I'm at work on an epic myself, albeit with some prose mixed in with the verse. Join me, and together we can begin a second great age of poetry.

I think a narrative poem, like an epic, is difficult to do in rhyme because it's an element you have to keep track of in addition to the story. So a narrative poem need not rhyme in the way a short poem does.

That said, this makes the narrative poems that DO rhyme that much more impressive, which is why Dante mogs the shit out of most of the poets of history.

Dante is sometimes considered to be part of the Catholic mystical tradition, and there are some sources which indicate that his vision of Heaven in the Paradiso is based on an actual mystical experience he had.

Dante wrote the greatest work of literature of all time and he was a heterosexual Catholic.

Does anybody else find themselves returning to the same books over and over? These days, when I think of the books I most want to read, I ultimately think not of reading new books but rereading books I've previously read.

The most powerful artists are the ones that can take philosophy and make great art with it.

Wagner was one such artist. Dante and Goethe were as well.

This.

You need to be on fire, to have come alive, with something.

Dante probably didn't do drugs but he was extremely devout and also was something of a mystic, that's as good or better than psychedelics.

I am convinced that the Comedy, especially the Paradiso, is a deeply divine work, and that Dane himself is worthy of sainthood for writing it.

I have even contacted the appropriate archdiocese in Italy to see about opening his cause for sainthood. Sadly they have not gotten back to me.

But Dante himself predicted that he would be recalled from exile by Florence, and that he would be a saint. Florence has recalled the exile against him, so that's half his prophecy come true. What if the other prophecy comes true too?

Don't mind me, James, just making allusions and references all throughout my masterpiece and doing it a thousand times better than you did.
