This was quite fun, the opening ignored me but I've read the whole thing in about 24 hours.

It looks like the sequel will move away from it but I'm quite a fan of fantasy set around cities without there being an obvious plot from page 1. And it's always nice to read a novel with a magical school in it that's smart enough to actually skip past the education of the protagonist parts by setting them before the book
