Burnham builds up from Machiavelli's realist approach to political science and fleshes out the Italian Elite theory school, with a section on Sorel as well. He combines all these thinkers to establish that while 'popular sovereignty' is by its very nature an oxymoronic illusion, the right to dissent and opposition in addition to the freedom of social forces (an idea taken from Mosca) from the state as critical to preservation of liberty within society, which he regards a truer from of "democracy" where social forces and pillars of political power check each other and create a stable equilibrium.

I'm also reading C W Mills Power Elite to follow this up, so I'm hoping for some book recommendations can be made to further a critical study of American power politics, as a means to the end of understanding fully wtf is happening today in the US and globally. I'm most interested in honing in on a study of modern elites and the glaring path we are on towards totalitarianism and their role in ushering in this path for us all.

I very rarely visit here and some poster was praising it. I bought it completely on a whim, and it was the most profound read of my life.
I ended up giving my family a paperback copy each. With my facial muscles, I reciprocated their joy for receiving the perplexing yet nebulous oddysee, with a smile. “Anon, the blurb makes me wonder if the story will contain any esoteric horror” my three year old niece asked of me. I replied using my mouth “yes.”

Esoteric is a term used to describe something difficult to understand or understood by few. However, Call Of The Crocodile, is neither of these things, I write using my fingers for this post.
Unironically though, I highly respect the author’s take on spirituality. But it was a pseud that wanted to incorporate as many schizo ideas as he could. Any good authors on a DMT worldview?
