ITT: Your personal 10/10s.

Post books that are perfect in your eyes. Whether it's a popular classic or an underrated gem, it doesn't matter. Just post books that you consider perfect (and feel free to give some reasoning why too if you want to convince others to read it too).

For me, Jane Eyre is perfect. It's beautifully written, drenched in a subtle gothic and dreamy atmosphere, full of beauty such as innocent female childhood friendship, the mystery of Mr Rochester, Jane's philosophy of keeping restrained and disciplined, the confrontation of her abusive aunt on her death bed, etc etc. It is really beautifully written to the extent where I've re-read passages and paragraphs just because of how enjoyable they have been to read.

What are some books and authors you like but feel like /lit/ will make fun of you for liking?

I like Clive Barker. That mix of violent pulp and cosmic horror is my weak spot. I even liked his Hellraiser movie.

Does /lit/ like The Criterion Collection? I feel a little embarrassed to mention them because /tv/ says it's for pseuds and I get a lot of it is film school hipster-core, but I do love the variety of films they've put out. I don't want everything they release, but their Zatoichi boxset is amazing, as is their Lone Wolf and Cub set, and I love their releases of Orson Welles, Bergman and John Waters too. Their editions are so nicely put together with plenty of features and some essays, I'm just a sucker for them.

I hope one day I'm one of those people they invite to the Criterion closet to take any of the DVDs and blu-rays home with me because I would honestly be greedy and take as much as I can

9 books out of 20 for the reading challenge. Was three books ahead of schedule before I started reading Dostoevsky's The Idiot. My progress is slow but I am thoroughly enjoying it so I'll just take my time with it.

Got a big stack I want to read this year: Walden, Confederacy of Dunces, Catch 22, Jane Eyre, Rashomon, The Odyssey, The Metamorphoses, etc. I know some of those are entry-level and I probably should have read them sooner so I plan on remedying that this year. Feel free to add me, I'm likely to ask "how is it" if you're making progress on a book I'm interested in.
