I've tried reading Underworld, and I've tried Mao II. I really enjoyed each book's prologue, but had a hard time getting into them after.
Am I getting pleb filtered? Should I just power through? Or is there a better DeLillo book to start with?

What do you think of delillo's underworld? I just finished it and I think despite it being a bit too long it's still his best work, I enjoyed it more than White Noise. the klara sax rooftop summer stuff in part 4 and nick as a teenager in part 6 admittedly dragged on and on but the epilogue really saved the whole thing.

what was the overall message of the book in your opinion? That rampant consumerism and the waste is creates will eventually destroy american society? Did sister edgars soul really get transported into cyberspace at the end or is that just a colloquial analogy for what delillo thinks dying is actually like? And also whats the deal with Nick's praxis of naming everything? The priest in juvie teaches him to name every part of his shoe, and then half a century later he teaches this to his kids. How does being able to name everything in existence possible help anyone? really cool book that I can't stop thinking about, Delillo needs to be discussed as much as pynchon
