Hm. I try to be open to reasonable ideas. Most recently I started to read some of those Kaczynski threads. All this time they annoyed, but now I get it. I may still disagree with the guy and his fan boys on some points, but I really sympathize now.

Most people are basically illiterate. They can read but can't seem to find the time or concentration to open a book, let alone absorb what they read. The public school system does not, in any way whatsoever, equip young adults with the proper tools necessary for this. It takes a lot of time and effort to be able to find enriching art, music, literature, ect. By enriching I mean lying outside the realm of the entertainment industry. Instead of the quest for soulful enrichment and self-actualization, the norm is to simply consume that which is meted out, which is a much easier short-term cure for boredom. Everyone is always "bored". To cure this discomfort they reach for whatever is at arms length, and whats found is not something that will make them a better person, but merely another addle-brained consumer. There's nothing necessarily wrong with mental simplicity. But to a more developed mind, the banalities of conversations can become quite the burden. Anon, just remember this: Most people live out their life to the best of their ability, and are unable to improve simply because they don't have the tools necessary to do it better. Everyone lives in isolation to some extent, the alienation you may feel isn't unique to only you.
