Whats the darkest, sorrowful piece of literature you ever read

I think sadism is as scary as it is because it necessitates empathy

When you're talking about a psychopath you can say "they lack empathy" like it's a weakness, like you have the advantage over them, but the idea of someone who is emotionally sensitive enough to identify with someone's suffering and STILL want to cause it is absolutely terrifying, like it's proof that evil is more powerful than good

This is also why I find Nietzsche's thought so terrifying, that someone with such obvious sensitivity and intelligence can advocate for endless war and domination reoccurring eternally, pure horror, we are all LITERALLY living in hell and there is no escape even in death

Hi, I'm fairly inexperienced in literature, but I'm looking for that certain feel that I sometimes. well. feel.

It's that feeling of incomprehensibility of everything. When you cannot stand the emotions and thoughts or even the presence of people around, because it's just too real to you. Being overwhelmed by the world, the universe, the possibility of greater beings.
The idea of a god, and what an encounter would feel like, or more like an encounter with satan. Descending to hell, not literally, but emotionally.

The true depths of the darkness of humanity. Evil, depression, in a way pessimistic nihilism.
The ego, sacrifices etc.

I don't know if anybody knows what I mean, but honestly, no matter how edgy all that sounds, I absolutely love that feel of true hopelessness, at least I believe I do.
I can't deal with the idea of living or dying, and I'd love some literature that even slightly touches some of this.

cheers, any rec is highly appreciated
