The Edge Chronicles are pretty great.

It's one of the few YA fantasy settings that's not a Tolkien knockoff and it's world changes in terms of technology and society over the course of the series which is pretty cool
Also it features sky-pirates and wizards that live on a floating rock

The illustrations are fucking incredible as well, I can't overstate how top notch they are

When I was a child these books sparked my imagination and got me into drawing, they are great.

What does /lit/ think of the Edge Chronicles?

What book/books got you into reading as a young'un /lit/?

I remember reading a book as a child, but I can't recall much about it any more. The only thing I can remember about it is that it had a description of some kind of debate in a formal setting, either a sitting of Parliament or some kind of University forum. The main character was arguing against some unlikeble young upstart, and they move into some ceremonial duel with debating rods, and there was some mention about how these rods were heavier than the normal rods used in daily life. It was accompanied with an illustration in the style of Edge Chronicles (pic related). Does anyone remember reading a book like this ):

I loved the Edge Chronicle series, they made my childhood. The illustrations were exquisite.
