Not sure why all the triggered sorts are coming out now, but here's the deal. No one looks at the West as a source of entertainment, just having a Western name is 2.5 strikes against you. Japan has a good reputation for entertainment, which means people give a new author a fair chance. And since there are enough themes in there (waifus of course, I accidentally copied isekai anime despite not watching them, etc) it isn't as if I am just using the name, someone looking for Japanese style entertainment specifically will find at least something they like.
There's also the broader picture, Western stuff presents zero sum, negative interactions, Japanese entertainment offers a wide variety of stories which people can enjoy regardless of nationality. Also...

I am pretty sure they are opposites and you overcome the Last Man ideals of mindless consoomerism and Anomie by finding a worthy goal. Which is a noble idea, but in the absolute state of Clown World trying for this just points you at various failure paths. For example, fighting and protecting your people is noble, fighting and protecting your own conquerors is supreme cuckoldry.
As for fiction/escapism/etc, that's always existed ever since men no longer struggled for base survival on a daily basis. And 99% of the demand for escapism is that there is something you are escaping from, aka this world sucks.
Escapism over fantastical shit (dragons, magic, etc) is understandable. Escapism just because it's the only place where even semi healthy relations exist between people because everything else is zero sum bullshit?
