The mind should never be empty and inactive. When you're not focusing on an external task, you should be focused on something internal, thinking about different concepts or using your imagination and creativity somehow. When you look at your environment, you should not look at it empty-headed like a dog, but focus on details as if you were trying to download enough information to recreate it in your mind later. Train your faculties of imagination and perception all the time, use every minute to try to solve a problem or push your capacity for abstract thought to a new level, and condition your mind to be simultaneously restless and focused.
