Sometimes I long for nothingness or oneness or whatever the Buddhists talk about. Where there's no self, and there's no distinctions between you and me, and there's nothing but an objective, calm, impersonal peace.

Other times I do long for Heaven and for a personal God, the way the Bible talks about it.

Religions all have to do with instincts and desires. Putting aside which one is true, there's no denying that each religion and philosophy is based on some sort of emotional drive.

Is uncertainty inherent to it? I think so. All religions are based on faith, and even with certainty or conviction there's an underlying sense of uncertainty. And yet even in spite of all that, I still want to believe that one of them is true and right.

I don't know.
