What is there to be explained? I thought most things were very clear in that part, and if something wasn't, most editions come with useful annotations. The plot is fairly simple: Dante meets Beatrice and slowly ascends through earthly paradise, moon, and planet to heaven, meeting the saints and theologians along the way, finally being able to look at God (your picture), described as a rose and the ultimate expression of love.
