I'm a writer myself and this can be a bit tricky.

The trouble is that if you put your short story up on the internet there's a ton of journals and websites that will count it as "previously published," which means they won't accept it for publication themselves. So actually getting criticism without invalidating your shot at getting published can be difficult.

My advice would be to find some kind of private forum for communication. A Discord, an IRC, a private message board. Something like that. Something where your story can be critiqued that also keeps it away from prying eyes.

NOT /lit/. 4chan is fully public, magazines and websites will flip their shit if they do a Google search and find your story here.

There's a significant amount of poetry in the book I've worked on. Now that I'm leaving it alone for a month before I start editing it, I decided it was time to start boning up more on my poetics.

I took the advice of the Poetry General and ordered Mary Kinzie's "A Poet's Guide to Poetry." I'm looking forward to being able to read it, and to improve my skills as a result.
