>If every one were not so indolent they would realize that beauty is beauty even when it is irritating and stimulating not only when it is accepted and classic.
—Gertrude Stein

Is this just the artless brute's argument for the relevance/importance of his or her own work? Aren't irritating things just irritating?

I have to say I think Stein was a shitty writer and even Ayn Rand hated her with a passion i.e. in the words of Seneca, "let evil vie with evil."

I've still only read Richard Yates (which is neutrally awful), but I don't care for the New York scene of which he's a part.

I've been meaning to read his book on the French Revolution.

Gertrude Stein was illiterate, and Dos Passos is true /lit/-core.

>stumble upon the season premiere of Girls
>I immediately hate it, but then this scene
>all of my rage

Has /lit/ ever seen any other lit in plain-view on TV?
