OP, read this — it will help

Most people (and ourselves undoubtedly to some extent) have their desires shaped by forces they neither control nor understand.

You don’t get it, “normal” people don’t have real existential problems or crises of meaning. Every time they do, they self medicate with alcohol, TV, vidya, pornography, food, music, etc. They have been fully integegrated into an autonomous, propagandistic system that provides them with *meaning* or *purpose* as long as they completely submit to the commonly accepted goals of the masses. Which they will do of course, but only after dissenting the “proper, respectable” amount.

They don’t have any guiding light aside from a very basic “avoid pain, seek pleasure” principle, and as such, see nothing wrong with doing something “boring” from 9-5 so they can do something “fun” afterwards (like drinking or watching tv). When you don’t have any intellectual interests, things that we find “boring” are just “normal.”

TL;DR — you’re projecting your own personality on people who most likely have a very differently motivating principle and worldview.

Also seriously /lit/, read Jacques Ellul — don’t know why he’s not more famous in the states. His book is much better than Bernays’, for example

This, here is the quote:
>By the time he encountered Ellul, Kaczynski recalled in 1998, “I had already developed at least 50% of the ideas of that book on my own, and … when I read the book for the first time, I was delighted, because I thought, ‘Here is someone who is saying what I have already been thinking.’”

Just read Ellul. Start with The Technological Society, then read Propaganda.
