I'm looking to start reading the discworld series of novels. The picture I just posted shows me the various different books I can start at, but I was hoping one of you gentlemen could tell me which of these starter novels is the best.

Has he read the Discworld novels yet?

If not, I'd very much recommend it.

Personally, my favourites are the Guards books. It depends on your personality, your film/book preferences etc as to which series you will prefer, but they're mostly pretty good and often astoundingly awesome.

Hey /lit/

How does one go about reading the Discworld novels?
I've read the first two in the series, should I now keep going in the order they were written,
or should I follow this chart and read all books about one character then proceed to another?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

"One should treat others according to how one would like others to treat one's self."

That's THE Golden Rule.

But if you were to make up a rule, what would it be?

Here's the general guide to reading order.
Also, another vote for Night Watch as best discworld book ever.

The general consensus is that you shouldn't start with the first books because they're kind of poorly written, but I really liked getting the 'tour through discworld', and you can see the progress that Pratchett makes in his works.
Anyhow, as long as you follow a certain line, you're fine.
Small Gods is a standalone story, and it's quite enjoyable and Mort is the fourth book in the series (but the first one in the 'Death'-series), which is where Pratchett really improves.

Yeah I'm kind of undecisive on what order to pick, the fans here say I should use the one in my immage, and I kind of like reading the Arcs in one time instead of being interupted by another Arc, and then continuing the previous one after being inerupted, because that's how the writing order looks in comparissom to te reading guide.

Forever ago, my father read a book that he tells me was fantastic, and would do anything to read again. Problem is, he remembers almost nothing about it. We've been searching for it for years.

What he remembers about it is:
- It's French.
- It's about a man who is about to be sent to jail, but his lawyer keeps him out of there by going "you can't jail him because he has to be judged at another place for a worse crime".
- Both men are part of an acting company?
- The author (probably) has three names. Like, I dunno, Jean-Claude Whatever.
- It (probably) takes place before/during/just after the French revolution.

Since this is all based on what he remembers from a book he reaad over 40 years ago, I don't expect everything to be accurate. But any help at all would be appreciated. I think if I could find the book again and gift it to him, he would actually cry.

Pic unrelated.

This op. Alternatively, choose a saga and stick with it until you finish and move onto the next one.
