Should companion essays be read before or after primary sources of Philosophy/Higbrow Lit? I like to read primary sources first so I can make up my own mind first, but would it be more advisable to, say, read an essay on Aristotle's Logic before going through the Organon?

After I've read the Greeks can I read what I like /lit/? I want to read War and Peace but feel I won't appreciate it without reading every other bit of the western canon before it. Would I also need to read a history of Russia first aswell; what about a biography of Tolstoy? Do I need to read his other works before it?

What websites are best for notes and summarys/synopses, or what methods are good for remembering key information? For example I am currently starting with the greeks and reading their history (I didn't start with Herodotus don't worry) and at the end of each section I write down notes of the key information, this works well for remembering but is very time consuming. Will I naturally get better at remembering key info/faster at note taking and reading? Or should I stop being an autist and just read? Sorry for all the questions, english is my first language

Anyone here want to start a philosophy book club?

We'll use pic related starting with the Greeks (at Socrates/Plato) and follow it from there, author by author, choosing the most important work by each author.
If deciding the most important work is tough for whatever reason, we'll vote on what to read.

In order to make a space to congregate and such, we'll use Goodreads but of course /lit/ as well.

Who wants to join?

Why do we hate, /lit/? What does it do for us as a society, other than dividing us along every possible axis of division. And these divisions need not be anything significant, to arouse strong feelings of hate, loathing, spite, jealousy, rage, and anger, to manifest in acts of violence and abuse against our fellow. So what purpose does it serve? Why can we not be united as one people, under a common cause to help our fellow man?

This is a pretty solid canon.
Start anywhere and you'll have a good time.

Could probably be boiled down to essentials, tho.
