In assessing the effects of technology on human life, Kaczynski considers only the negative effects. This makes him leave out from his inquiry a number of very important facts, such as the fact that prior to the industrial revolution, all countries in the world had a living standard comparable to today's standard in Africa south of the Sahara, and that since the late 18th century, the global average life expectancy at birth has more than doubled. 22 It is hard to deny that these are real improvements and that they were made possible by technologies, perhaps most centrally artificial fertilizers, agricultural machinery, water chlorination, sewer systems, antibiotics, and vaccines. It is also hard to deny that a wide range of other technologies—reading glasses, painkillers, printing presses, light bulbs, pianos, music recordings, trains—have enriched the lives of billions.

How did he do it? How did he live in his cabin without dying?
Did he write anything on his life in the cabin?
I read he used a bike to go to the nearby town and worked a few jobs before he became completely self-sufficient.
Anyone knows more about this?

A lot of Kaczynski really resonates with people. His explanation is radical and the more one thinks about it the more it makes sense that technology as we know it today is the ultimate source for this clownworld that we find ourselves. All this said though, I don’t get why people treat him like he is some great innovative and original thinker. Kaczynski himself mentions how indebted he is to Ellul, and though he seems to have been thinking along somewhat of the same lines even before Ellul, it doesn’t mean that he is not just retreading a lot of what has been said by other tech-critical thinkers and luddites throughout time. He definitely did a fantastic job in ISAIF and later with ‘Anti-Tech Revolution: Why and How’ in making this sort of thought more accessible to the masses – it certainly worked for me. I’m not attacking Kaczynski in this post, merely the veneration that he gets. Originality isn’t, of course, all-important.

1)The belief in the predictive capacity of models regarding relevant economic variables can be shattered by understanding the existence of non-quantifiable risk and its role.
2)The creed of econometrics creates economic misscalculation of risk and missalocation of scarce assets.
3)Those that profit by exposing ordinary people to risk have very little to lose and much to gain. There are economic incentives for this kind of parasitic behaviour.
4)The current paradigm in orthodox economics is based around DSGE models that cant actually predict serious change.
5) The events he call white or black swans are events with immense pay-off or loss that have insignificant probabilities of becoming true.
6) Economists and political pundits expose ordinary people to black swann's and cause immense losses in exchange of mediocre regular gains.
7) The process that generates economic data is fractal and can't be predicted/understood enough.
8) He says that people should expose themselves to white swanns while avoiding black swanns. The possibility of earning everything while gaining close to nothing is better than the possibility of losing everything while gaining little.

Even if someone wanted to stop it now it doesn't matter. The society is controlled and shaped by technology and not people. So with the tiny autonomy granted to us chemical meat puppets destroyed by ourselves we are trapped with only our thoughts. Since the mass of people don't acknowledge these facts as well, it is hard to even have a conversation with someone who isn't deluded in some way or another so it is a lonely and cursed existence.

Do any of you lads have any experience with this?
