A book can't be racist. A book cannot have motivations.

So came across this idea of "Death of the author" from Roland Barthes.

What do you think about this?

Personally I'm not too keen on thinking he's right. A text written by an author is tailored to the author's point of view no matter how you spin it.

So, is there anyway we can destroy all fan fiction?

How well can you write from a father's perspective without actually being one?
Is it enough to know your father (whatever that means), or a father(s)?

Can someone explain to me why so many people seem to dislike the "death of the author"?

Perhaps I'm missing something but the concept seems pretty rational to me. Surely the only 'meaning' in a story we can be sure of is the one we interpret ourselves?

Okay how about this?
Waif:
A miserable 30 year old man sets out on a journey to not take responsibility for his actions.
This character lives and sleeps within his disheveled car and the plot is set in motion when said car is impounded.
Set in a drought stricken Californian suburb with residents who don’t take kindly to this ambiguous figure.
The main focus with this novel I want to take is this character desperately trying to reconcile his nature with a society that doesn't want or need him.

How does the school of resentment reconcile the death of the author with their obsession with the author's skin color/gender?
