I d rather read Nabokov and Pynchon over Nietzschean, Freudian or Hegelian BS. I really dont feel like needing help to understand the world and life, I would rather enjoy nice prose, plot reconstruction, different styles, linguistic exercises than more retarded self help bullshit.

What is your favorite passage in all of literature?

Hello everyone! I needed a little help with a video drama we are doing for a college course. The topic we gave was depression. Unfortunately nobody in my group has a creative mind. I would like some ideas for a 10 minute video drama on depression with 5 male actors. Please don’t suggest any homo ideas. Posting this a 2nd tiime.

Sup /lit/. I'm struggling with some anxiety/depression atm and it's killing my appetite, mood and overall enjoyment of life. What can I read that will help me?

Why is the study of literature important? Is it? I've been thinking of studying literature, but I can't find a good reason to do it. When I google stuff like "why is literature important" etc., it's just article after article about why it's important for you, as a person, to study literature (the benefits of it). But is the study of literature in any way important to society? Why should anyone study literature?

Is the artist obsolete now in modern society? The intimate one on one experience between artist, and audience? Its gone, due to reddit pretty much. All the immersion and philosophy and human dilemmas now are provided by the hive mind on sites like reddit.

Anybody here on /lit/ pursue a PhD in English/any foreign language literature? If yes would love to know the following:
1. What school
2. What was a daily schedule like while earning the master's portion/the dissertation portion
3. What were your job prospects vs. how hard you worked to get a job lined up after graduation

Is there a definitive reading list for /lit/?
