How is it that every time, literally EVERY TIME a Bakker excerpt is posted here, it is invariably, absolutely and undeniably shit?

I can't find the will to ever begin his books because of this fact.

Help me, /lit/.

I've always had difficulty to appreciate the beauty of style, of prose itself without its meanings and images - cadence, rhythm, and the other mystical elements that make Nabokov's and Joyce's writing so pleasurable to you. I easily get the meaning, I can appreciate the images, if I am in the "imagining" mindset, but the rest just seems beyond my reach, even if I discard meaning completely and focus entirely on it.

Is there still hope? Is aesthetic appreciation innate or must it be developped?

In the later case, how do you read, /lit/? Explain it to me as if I had no clue how to read.

What inane definition of plot are you using?

Plot is the organization/structure of the events that take place, not the encapsulation of every element that makes a story

The arrangement of elements that make up a piece of music and the arrangement of events that take place in a book are not mutual. Again, a plot is an element in itself, not an encapsulation of the elements of a story

How does it even feel to be really moved by a book so much that you just have that click in your mind to look at things differently, to live a new life, to change your perspective almost completely?

Even the assumed greatest works of literature have not been able to break through to me. I can be appreciate a good book, but I'll just say yeah, that was a good bad. I will never somehow relay the book unto my life's current circumstances or my own person.

A book has never changed me as a person or set off a chain reaction that led to a drastic change of personality. I basically let nothing change my own self. This means that I dont learn from much of anything either. My vocabulary doesn't even expand.

Are there any other people like me here? How do you deal with it and should you even? Is it an advantage or a disadvantage?
