I think that's just the usual lack of (or maybe being afraid of) originality endemic to genre fiction. You have a whole galaxy of aliens to kill and in most of the cases they end up being blue skinned goat fuckers with head ridges or something. Even with those self imposed limitations, it's so rare we get a Generation Kill in space. Instead we get the space version of those retarded Marine Corps commercials.
