Retard here, again.

Are the commas in these two sentences correct?

Now, when setting out to do something I first ask myself if I really care about it.

and

The difference was that as much as it hurt, I still felt pride in knowing that I didn’t hold anything back on the court, just as I won’t hold anything back off of the court now.
and yeah...I know those 2 sentences are cliche as fuck

Sup /lit/. Any aspiring writers or well-read persons who can give me an idea as to how one should write about a romantic relationship in a way that is believable, down-to-earth etc. without incorporating tragic star-crossed lovers or being really boring/hollow/pointless. Like how should their relationship start out and why, how does it last/develop? I haz no idea, perhaps because I've never even got close to having any kind of relationship myself. Overall, the romance should be a positive, dependable anchor in the otherwise dire and gritty narrative. Cheers for any ideas

The room was empty, he was alone. It was dark and the only light came through the door. The tee on the little table in the middle was untouched.
He waited as he has waited before. Visitors had come; they had stepped into this room once or twice, but only for a few paces before leaving again and before never coming back.
He had waited for them for a long time, he had looked out for them, for their return, but they never returned. And so he had finally closed the door, waiting for a new visitor.
The last visitor was here some time ago. He had come nearer to the table as the others. The man had hoped that the visitor this time would sit down on the table. Sit down and drink some of the tea and that they could talk. But he had been too impatient. And soon also this person had slowly, but steadily left. He wasn’t sure. He thought, or hoped, that this person was still near, that this time someone would return to his lonely room. The door was still open. He had already thought about closing it. He already wanted to close it, but he didn’t or couldn’t, not this time. This time it would be different. And while the light of the outside was shinning into his room he knew that he would probably never close it. He had work to do. Important work and when he was finished, maybe then, the person would come back, would come in here again. And would sit down at the little table in the middle and would stay. Maybe only for a while, but maybe forever.
He began his work. In the outside world the sun was setting.

The web of which the widow wove
In front of grandeur, her little cove
Little flies and moths and bees
Lured to a trap that no one sees
Her tactics true, her tactics wild,
Vicious acts to make her smile.
Your sinful potion, your poison cider;
You’re nothing but a heartless spider.
They can’t see now, but soon they will
Then they’ll walk their own freewill.
And here you’ll rot, forever alone
In your quiet, empty home.

I'm frustrated and lonely.

What's a good book to read that captures my mood without being corny bullshit?
