How long and detailed should battle\fight scenes be (in terms of words relative to the fight's length) in a novel? I think the hardest one to work with is one on one combat in a confined space, has really little to offer.

My book starts off slow and the third paragraph is, of course, the weather being described with the character in bed. He's basically disabled in a way so I thought it was a good start.

So my question is, if a book starts off slow and kind of generic (not a jaded misanthrope main character though) but soon gets well paced plot development and events, how much harder will it be to publish?
