One of my characters is 16, and I think this is the issue. Lots of beta readers' complaints basically boil down to this. Thematically, it makes more sense for her to be 16 than 18, but it's putting people off. Should I change it? There's some sex in there and maybe it seems sleazy

If I can find a book I'm interested in at my local used book store, I'll buy it (assuming it's in good condition and $4 or less). Otherwise I'll just pirate it onto my Kindle if it's what I want to read next.

The only books I seek out physical copies of are larger, 1000+ page books. I usually like to chip away bits of them each night and watch as my bookmark progresses along the way.

It comes and goes. Don't force yourself to read stuff you don't want to read. After a while you'll naturally get interested in some book, so until then, do the things you enjoy or things that are worthwhile
