What sci fi books/series have the best atmosphere like The Forever War? I've heard Old Mans War, Starship Troopers, and Ringworld are pretty good choices. Looking for humans vs aliens but not just a battle book. More like war, loss, progress, long amounts of time passing, survival, etc.

Old Man's War is a good knock off of Starship Troopers

Old Man's War is pretty good for pure entertainment value. Read it on a plane ride a few weeks ago. There's a little less celebration of the "good soldier" when compared to something like Heinlein, but if you're into Grimdark this book has a good bit of it.

Finished Old Man's War and Ulysses for the first time this week, and started reading the Wheel of Time

You guys will probably laugh me out of here for asking about sci-fi, but I've read a lot of Hyperion and Ender stuff, and I'm looking for another space opera series to get into. What should I try, Vorkosigan Saga or pic related?

If Vorkosigan, what's a good place to start? The Cordelia stuff seems like a good jump-on point but I'm not sure.
