Newbie here. What's the point of the unreliable narrator trope, and when is it best used?

Hey, /lit/. Can you anons recommend me some good fiction?

Horror: similar vibe to 2000s era /x/ creepypastas or scps/seekers?
Japanese horror, no excessive gore.
Anything Lovecraftian
any Gothic or Dark Romanticism
Or something similar to Fallout
Thanks in advance.

reading some old and new Lovecraft recently

one thing that's really starting to bother me... he doesn't fuck around literally telling you the big reveal almost immediately. I just read Charle's Dexter Ward and The Shadow Out of Time. It's really obvious what the dramatic reveal or the supposed "horror" of the story is immediately (necromancy or alien brain replacement, respectively). There's just ample clues and less than subtle suggestions the most competent reader can puzzle it out. I know that yeah it's kind of not the point of his stories, it's less a dramatic page-turner leading up to a massive REVEAL and yeah this alongside the style and emotion keep me reading, but I just wish it was a little less, idk, up-front.

Not as much a problem with the stories that kind of lack key horrific idea/"reveal", i.e. Shadow over Innsmouth, but he manages to keep things contained until the end with some other stories like Dunwich Horror or Mountains of Madness (but then the latter also kind of gets a lot less exciting when it loses it's spooky arctic horror elements).

Idk maybe Wolfe ruined me and I just crave puzzles in my stories now. anyone else had this?

I think my attitude towards philosophy could be similar to my attitude towards fitness and bro science.

When I started getting in to the gym and /fit/, I was amazed by all the fitness knowledge and bro science. I quickly moved to the intermediate stage, where I learned to expel all bro science and focus on the bare minimum essentials of what it takes to get fit. Now after years of lifting and becoming much stronger, I can look at /fit/ and be entertained by the broscience, and sometimes manipulate it at arm's length for fun.

I'm at the intermediate stage of philosophy. I saw it, was filled with wonder, but quickly went in to a stage where I see everything as ultimately arbitrary bs. Now I am seeing the bullshit as something that has to be played with at arm's length, ultimately for pleasure causing aesthetic purposes.

My question to you guys is: how do philosophers resist the temptation to hit on the "it's all arbitrary anyway" button?

Am I morally obligated to apologize before talking about how much I enjoy Lovecraft's work?

Is H.P Lovecraft's work worth buying if you're into mythology, occultism and the unnatural?

And if so, would all his of work be a good read?

Any other suggestions that have to do with these subjects?
