I think a lot about how many posters we've lost since the introduction of the captcha. Maybe not here because books but overall on 4chan, like there were less people coming here already anyway but then they introduced this, which made it way more involved to post.

I try to read a book and get bored and drop it. I often get farther with audio books but almost always drop it by the midway or just past the midway point. I used to love reading when I was very little and would get obsessive over books once I was into them, as in read them everywhere all the time. I can devour nonfiction books in this way easily for some reason. I really want to get back into fiction though, but the stopping and starting really puts me off of it. I have some books that I want to finish but it's been so long that I know I'm gonna be lost and I have very bad memory so I might wanna reread it. But rereading it will be even more boring because I'll remember as I'm going.

So how do I do this? I literally cannot finish a 300 page book. I already tried reading one of my childhood books but I got bored very quickly. I had a collection of Lovecraft stories that I loved but I entirely stopped for a month after only reading one or two stories. Does anyone else experience this?

I'm not looking for How to Win Friends and Influence People. I'm not autistic, I'm actually pretty social and love socializing. I'm going through a weird lonely phase after graduating college and I'm not sure how to have adult friends as all the other friends I've had were revolved around school or school programs. I was in a few different groups in high school and that grew a lot in college. That was all a bit more situational and constructed though, so I feel like I know most of the basics like the stuff covered in How to Win Friends, but not some of the more essential networking stuff.

I'm looking for books that will teach me some more advanced social stuff. Things like how to join friend groups, how to go from acquaintances to friends or friends to close friends, how to arrange events or how to hang out with people. Things more advanced than the basics of how to socialize with individuals, or even books about going from isolation/loneliness to having a social life again. I'm looking mostly for self-help here but if you have any fiction recommendations that helped you if you were in that situation, I'd be down to here those too.

Any tips for visualizing? I have a really hard time imagining the orientation/direction of characters and it makes more "fun" action or interaction scenes confusing as fuck. It's hard for me to visualize an area (i can understand a description of it visually but I get lost with characters walking around in it) but not an object if that makes sense.

>Read book after seeing a recommendation on here
>See people discussing all the deep philosophy and meaning behind it
>Didn’t pick up on 90% of it
>Some parts of the book I didn’t understand
>Still enjoyed reading it
>Still enjoy being a happy brainlet

When reading I will read each individual word "out loud" in my head, despite this sometimes I even misread a word! I will often not absorb information when reading, I can read an entire page and not know what I have read. It's as if I am reading with my eyes instead of my brain.

I want to be able to read without a voice in my head. I want to be able to read and absorb everything.
