Oh great another one. Perhaps think about leaving the Anglosphere for once in your reading career, even reading some Russian literature will blow open the musky corridors in your mind much more than lukewarm Vonnegut and the whole gamut of his talentless American contemporaries will, the path you're pursuing with the most cookie-cutter of cookie-cutter literature will take far too long for you to write anything of worth. It's a harsh truth but it's true, if you're going to be reading like a schmuck for the rest of your life you might as well take risks with some of the books you read

That being said maybe some of these books about books will enlighten you into what goes into writing literature. Perhaps a bit TOO much, but I recommend How Fiction Works by Woods if you're on the safe side and How to Read and Why by Bloom and The Art of the Novel by Kundera if you want to go off the deep end right away.

Or even better pick up Mann's The Magic Mountain if you really want to read a novel about ideas

Shit. But how do you know what you should know? And then how do you know when not to know and when to know, or when the thing known is outside the category of the things needing to be known? Should it not be that losers are also those that hesitate to judge what is good and moral because their empathy is too wide, too abstract to be fixed onto a tangible aspect of the world in which one is able to use their agency to acquire either money or validation or sex or simply a mate for children?

this is good. but I'd also add that you write to think on paper and not produce a work of art. You don't have to do anything with what you have written. It could just be thrown out. Now go out and hand me in an article on some new construction and if I don't like it you won't get paid. Only 250 words. Go. (Or at least that's what you got to imagine doing, getting paid for it.) Just talk out loud on a wall until youre having a convosation.

just because manifestos became passe and all the revolutions were tucked inside the head of a destroyed policeman doesn't mean the declaration isn't there in the fine details.

when the paradigm shifted to medical terminology and diognosis for metophors I was bored and am only glad to watch those descriptors die. And if this generation begins using eco-terms for everything, I'll salt the fucking earth you all stand on and let out an effluent the which no sqawking gull will ever be clean from. Kill these methophors now before the "avant-gard" runs them through the sand and recycles this shit.

yeah a desire for position so that you are seen by certain people in a certain way that fits your illusions of self. However, the knowledge of this coupled with the act can also motivate you to take positions, explain yourself, or to think out loud about your work. Nothing wrong with it except if the conversation is shallow. I give eulogies to people all the time in my head so that I can try to overcome my anger and resentment and say something real about a person.
