UUUGGGGHHHHHH
10 more hours of this. TEN MORE HOURS. Hobb is stretching out such a thread bare story. WHY?!
For comparison, the Assassin's apprentice was a little over 17 hours. Ship of Destiny is over 33 hours. Stuff that should have happened in the beginning or middle of book 2, are finally happening now in the latter third of book 3. So after 2 and 2/3rds books. NINETY TWO HOURS into the story, they FINALLY get around to revealing what was so bluntly foreshadowed since the first book: Kennit was raped as a boy, and now he hungers for boy flesh in some sick way to take back power, after feeling so powerless himself.

And they tie this DUH revelation with of course: the rape of the boy's sister. Kennit rationalizes that his action are different because Althea is a girl and she "likes him". So he drugs her with wine Cosby style and date rapes her. During which, she has nightmare flashbacks to a boy she fucked as a young girl. And in her memory, she wanted him, but the changed her mind mid-fucking. And then her sister shamed her when she told her about it. And so essentially, this whole series finally reveals its ultimate feminist value: regretting sex is akin to rape.

And there's still 10 hours of this. I have given up all hope or expectation now. I'm going to finish this. But only so I can say I have. But I no longer expect to like anything after this point. The plot is not that complex or deep or interesting to warrant the time sink. But I'm going to see it to the end anyway.
