Let's have a Fahrenheit 451 scenario. All the books in the world are being burned. If you could only save one book, which would it be?

Inspired by the Literature Achievement thread (>>625534) and the "Globe Trotter" achievement, this summer, I plan on reading one work of literature from each country in the world.

Naturally, I need some recommendations. So far, I only have "One Hundred Years of Solitude" planned for Colombia.

So, recs? Preferably works that aren't standard high-school English requirements, so no "read Shakespeare!" for England.
