I think your heart is in the right place anon, but the way you're going about things seems both simplistic and heavy-handed. You could use your time to not just learn how to write stories, but also observe your world and make enough abstractions of what you've witnessed to the point where they smooth seep into your writing, adding the complex subtleties that characterize the so-called modern epics of the past (see The Magic Mountain). I would also advise asking yourself if you really want tell your story or the story of your characters. Both can be right, it's all a matter of counterpoint.
I deeply urge you to watch this movie right here because it not only examines the act of storytelling itself, but more importantly it's a metamodern/reaction to postmodernism piece that encompasses different extremely realistic and prescient characters to highlight problems lying deep within the spirit of the contemporary age, and its panache made it all the more timeless. It's required viewing in your case.
Good luck anon. Keep nurturing your spirit and your will.
