Will i be losing too much if i just skip Aristotle and the scholastics and go straight up to Hume/Kant/Spinoza/Hegel and so on? I can't be bothered to read The Organon or Metaphysics. I've read Nicomachean Ethics and Poetics and both weren't special. The Organon is mind numbingly bad, and if you went through high school, you already know logic more advanced than that. Is there an abridged or good summary of Metaphysics?

If conciousness is a product of random chemical reactions, then are animals "concious" as well? I mean, in an inferior way, of course. But think about it. Each part of the brain is built for doing some task. You have the hippocampus for memory. The pre frontal cortex for reasoning and planing, the visual cortex for visual stimuli. Dopamine helps controlling motor coordination and regulates feeling and all pretty much everything else related to human expression. Endorphine, dopamine and other chemicals regulate mood. Basically, it doesn't seem to be the case that there is a single part of the brain that is capable of self awareness. It looks as if it's just a result of all these parts coming together and becoming one. Now, couldn't that be also the case, but for animals? Of course they aren't advanced as us and haven't reached our stage of self awareness, but they may very well have some awareness that there is a world outside their existence, though not enough to even label the world as "world" or to think about it. But couldn't it be that they're trapped in an existence similar as a dream? In a dream you also aren't aware and most of the time, unless you practice lucid dreaming, you also don't reason about the world. Yet, you feel all kinds of emotion, especially fear, aprehension and nightmares seems to be a common experience. Couldn't it be the case for animals as well? They are trapped in a world they don't understand, and they don't even understand that they understand, but they have awareness enough for them to feel bad. Wouldn't this validate vegan claims about the ethics of killing animals?
I'm going to need some books on this feel desu

What are some good books on the technical aspects of prose? I started writing a few days ago and i want to be more concious of how i shape things.
