>You have no idea how much the Quebecois hate religion.
In Montreal and to some extent Quebec City, sure, but the second you go into the regions it is much more religious. In any cases, you still have a much stronger influence of catholic values still at play here.

Good Canadian authors are French-Canadians.

My great uncle was a writer, and apparently did the Channel swim many times.
I've never swam more than 1.2km, and every time I did I was dead at the end. My mom once did a 5km, took her most of the day. I can't imagine swimming 21km.

My great great uncle was a famous writer. The national literature prize is named after him. He inherited a very large sum from a gold digging uncle or something and used it to travel the world in the 1920s and 1930s. He attended one of Hitler's biggest rally, was one of the first to go into Tibet, traveled to Mongolia and China before coming back to Québec.
In China, he met with a bunch of authors and poets and agreed one night to do opium and hash with them, and write through the night, as a sort of experiment.
In the letter recounting the events, he doesn't say what he and the others wrote, but simply that it was such shit, that it made him literally furious, and he forced the authors to burn everything they write and swear to never do drugs again.

Bullshit. My great-uncle (an author who has now given the name for the national literature prize) traveled the world in the 1920s and 1930s after inheriting a gold fortune. Was one of the first European in Tibet, met Mongolian warlords (was even gifted a mongolian slave girl by one of them), and once, in China, agreed with a bunch of authors to do opium and write together. In his letter recounting the event, he said he was so utterly disgusted with the result that he went into a rage and threw everything everyone wrote in the fire the next morning, and got them to swear they would never to it again.
Pic very much rel.

Well, French-Canadians aren`t Canadians, but whatever, Alain Grandbois is a godlike author.
Also lived an insane life. Inherited a gold fortune, decided to travel the world between 1918-1938, saw one of Hitler`s first large speech, was one of the first to go into Tibet, met steppe warlords in Mongolia, went to try opium with a group of western degenerate writers in China and apparently left after a night telling them they could only write shit...
Can`t recommend him enough.
