Will this go over my head or is it newbie friendly?

Do you have any books that you are saving until you are more mature? I don't intend to read In Search of Lost Time until I am at least 35 or so - and ideally in French. I also don't feel in a position to fully appreciate War and Peace or Ulysses yet. (I'm 23 and have been reading seriously for several years, for the record.)

i'm towards the end of Swann's Way by Proust and is it me or does this man like to throw around the word magnanimously a lot?

ITT: Marcel Proust - In Search Of Lost Time

Proust was a french writer who stipulated a new writing style that improved narrative. The narrative restructures lived time, and gives the reader a second chance to experience it.
I'm writing about his search of Lost Time, seeking any tips, as well as discussion about Proust.

Which translation of the "Recherche" would you recommend - the classic one by Moncrieff (in the revised version), or the newer Penguin one?

Also, does someone happen to know how the German translation compares to the English ones? (I'm bilingual, so that would be an option for me as well.)

Is it best to read In Search of Lost Time back to back as one long novel, or is it okay to break it up and read different books between each volume?

Hi /lit/

I'm about to start reading À la recherche du temps perdu (in English) for the first time.

What should I expect?

Is In Search of Lost Time worth reading if I dont read it all the way through? I was thinking of reading the first part to give it a try and if I like it read a book every few months or so

What English translation of In Search of Lost Time would you say is the best?

I plan to try to read it soon and I want the best in terms of both capturing the beauty of the original language (authenticity) in my own and in terms of readability.

Can one read Marcel Prout's "In Search Of Lost Time" not in the order in which they appear? I picked up a second hand version of the last 4 novels, and am wondering if I should read the first few beforehand.

To those who have completed the Search, before reading, due to inescapable literary praise, I feel like a fair amount of plot points in Proust have been ruined - deaths of characters, themes, a few insightful aphorisms. To those who have finished it, is it still worth undertaking, even with a few spoilers? Are there more surprises than those I've mentioned? Thanks.

Where do I start with Marcel Proust?

I mean what part of "In Search of Lost Time" is maybe the most essential one?

So what should I expect from "In Search of Lost Time" by Proust? All I hear is It's a really long work and everybody loves it. Also speaking of very long works, Is anybody familiar with Henry Dargers "The Story of the Vivian Girls"? Always wondered if anybody published a complete version of that work.

Is it true that if I ask an abitrary question unrelated to /lit/ on this board, but post an image of a renowned intellectual apparently engaged in thought beside it, it will get responses?
