Fantasy in contemporary/urban settings that tackles issues commonly faced by modern (and nerdy) kids. It's easy for them to digest and manages to not only tackle their own issues at home and school but allows them to escape from these issues as well.

They aren't well written at all, but kids have shit taste.

Midwits filtered by a middle aged woman of all things. Laughable.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas sorta hits that. The entire book is written in a very "stream of consciousness" sort of way, but the narrator spends 95% of the book either drunk or high, usually both. I found it pretty enjoyable. Apparently Hunter S. Thompson wanted to write during a binge with as little editing afterwards as possible and this was the result.
