Why do people love Ham on Rye so much?

I see this being hailed as a classic and the best of Bukowski's books, but it just seems like a typical coming of age story.

although I don't really read him much any more or even recommend him to people, this was one of my favorite books when I first got into reading around 16. very easy to read and somewhat interesting especially if you are a neet/degenerate type.

Christ my life has been easy. Being born poor must suck

So many people are just set up to become depressed losers due to circumstances outside of their control

As a guy who was born lucky, is this worth concerning myself over? Should I make myself aware or just consoom and enjoy my good fortune?
