/lit/ - Literature

Most of Faulkner's works are set in a small fictional county in Mississippi. They're largely about a few families that live in the town and go through all kinds of psychological distress, he uses all this to touch on themes about the old South and its fall from grace. It's definitely interesting stuff, darkly comic and cerebral, and his prose is unbelievable.

It's only vaguely similar to Twin Peaks in tone and style, but I highly recommend checking him out in any case.

hmmm. It's been years since I read anything by him, but I remember being pretty into it. I'm not the most dogmatic c/lit/ when it comes to criticism by a longshot, though, then or now.

I read Gen X when it was new and I read Microserfs probably a decade after it came out, so that's a big enough timeframe to where it rules out one of those naive fads for me. that's still subjective as hell, I guess.

I think he's a solid if entertaining read with an interesting, unique voice; but I'd never award him the pulitzer or anything. Some of the imagery from Gen X has remained with me after a decade of heavy potsmoking, so that's positive, right?
