my confession would be that i totally missed the fact that in the last chapter of the Catcher in the Rye he ended up in mental asylum or something along these lines
i thought he wennt back home and was a bit "disturbed" with a doc visiting him at home

It's just a fancy world-building thing. Like elves make sense in Tolkien's world, so the thing-in-itself makes sense in Kant's philosophy. Their opus in reality says more about Tolkien and Kant than the elves or the thing-in-itself.

It's so predictable. The daily climate deaths tolls (*died while experiencing the climate) on the news. The seethings, the copings, the dilations.
