I don't recall much of Flos content in that three-parter, but that's possibly because my mind erased those memories. Reading about Trey is much more interesting.
I admit I'm not a fan of Flos, but then I'm also not a fan of Baleros either. I'd rather read mainly about Izril, but oh well.
Btw, Iron Man project wasn't revealed in 8.61, it was a thing way, waaaaay earlier, possibly as far as Voulme 4 or 5. It's only in V8 that it actually become something concrete.

Honestly, I'd love if Pirate had the balls to kill Flos off, that would make both for a good story and make it easier for everyone who's readin the story. But he appears to not only have a long-term story, but there's also the case of Pirateaba's obsession with not killing off characters. just imagine what kind of shake would that be. Maybe there's a chance for that once Flos finally conquers Chandrar again, in Volume 11 or 12. But very slim. Pirateaba is hellbent on torturing us with him, even though it's the most hated character in the story. I can only imagine ever increasing backlash once Flos starts conquering lands beyond Chandrar as he is bound to eventually, fanbase will go rabid.

>i'm skipping the K chapters at the beginning of book 4 for now and nobody can stop me.
>flos just feels weird to me, he reads more like a caricature rather than a real character. this makes it hard to take his aides and their loyalty seriously as well.
>maybe that would change over the course of those chapters but i guess i'll find out another time.

That's fair, Anon. You can also read them one by one, 3 normal chapters then one K chapter etc.

HOWEVER! 4.06KM is not a Flos chapter per se, half of it is an epilogue to the K arc, the other half is Izril stuff with Magnolia. That's why I'd recommend you to read at least the one chapter prior to the end, 4.05K which has the climax and will allow you to understand the epilogue which is very important to the entire Chandrar plotline.

By the way, don't feel weird about disliking Flos, many readers and fans do as well. He's probably one of the most disliked characters in the story, Chandrar plotline in general was the weakest until late Volume 6. After that it gets much better.

>Shiller bro, I'm about to start Volume 4 but I've noticed that it starts with like 200 pages of Flos
>Is it good? I really don't feel very motivated to continue reading at the moment
>I feel like pirate went overboard at the end of Volume 3 with the slice of life and it's gonna be just pure "story" for way too long now

You are entering so called 'Flos Wall of early V4.' Putting so much Flos at the start of V4 was probably a mistake by Pirate, but it's the most important Chandrar arc in the early TWI, after this you won't see Flos for a loooooooong time, or at least not for longer than a single chapter somewhere in V5, I thing. The most important thing is after you are done with this arc, you are about to experience the start of the REAL TWI, V4 being basically the end of the prologue. Flos Wall is the last hurdle before the truly juicy stuff.

Personally, I like this arc, it has some memorable scenes that people still mention to this day, like the conversation about Hitler. if you didn't like Chandrar plotline before, it's possible you will with this series of chapters. There is action and important reveals, especially at the end, giving the plotline its own identity and goals. Some people like this, some don't, but this kickstarts this plotline to something more than just 'that annoying Chandrar plotline that takes me from reading about Erin.' Don't worry about slice of life, the ratio of them doesn't change significantly for a longer time than you'd care to know, just enjoy the story, and remember, if you find something really boring then just skim a bit.

In the extreme case you read the first chapter of the arc and REALLY cannot bear to read longer, then just skip to 4.05K, this way you will read only the imporatnt bits, you can always re-read later if you feel you missed something relevant. The next chapter, 4.06KM is not a Flos chapter, but one amazing (in my opinion) scene that concludes the arc and makes Trey as a character. The rest of the chapter is Izril stuff.

Enjoy!
