Hmu, I've had some meager success after starting from literal zero a few months back (https://tookys.substack.com/).). I find you really do need another form of outreach to grow (Twitter for me, YouTube is probably ideal) in any kind of viral sharing way, although substack will send you a steady trickle of random people by itself. Also you just need to shamelessly shill your own stuff in relevant conversations sometimes. I do essays and fiction andgenerally essays draw more subs on average so far since people self select as interested in the topic I think. A HUGE tool to your mutual support point is the "Recommend" feature between substacks which give you a chance at a sub every time someone else in your recommend network gets a sub. If you write good stuff at all consistently I'm happy to rec for rec.

I should post more frequently (weekly is ideal for growth) but I have other writing/life so I don't sweat it too much.
