Walla-why?

I don't find Franzen an especially memorable prose stylist, it just seemed fitting.
Nabokov is a terrible writer.

>friends posthumous novel getting more publicity than your last book did
>spend the better part of 15 pages committing character assassination and talking shit about him

Franzen never gets tired of being an asshole; it's a shame he's pretty on point about Wallace.

Is Franzen worth reading?

What book should I read by him?

Oh cool. He's using his celebrity to bring more modern, less known work to light. That's kind of a cool thing to do, as long as I don't spend much time thinking about whether he had to stick to certain publishing companies. Maybe I have this gu--

What the fuck Franzen?

To be fair I haven't read most of these, and there WERE a few on my list to-do in 2011 getting pimped ('A Personal Matter,' 'The Man Who Loved Children'). Just letting you guys know.

For as much hate as Wallace gets he's still miles ahead of where Franzen will ever be.

Every time Franzen writes about the guy you can feel his face contorting and turning green. He was even a prick at his (DFW's) memorial service.

Why David was friends with him is beyond me. It probably has something to do with his limitless compassion and understanding.

LIKE I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THE SECRET IDENTITY OF THE BATMAN.

Seriously though, it makes me feel like we're all going to get attacked by giant birds.

No, really seriously though, it makes me feel pretty good. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm going to make my central mid-western family read it with me.

So as I'm checking out at a store, on the magazine racks I see the new issue of TIME. I see this guy on the cover. Jonathan Franzen. Apparently he is one of the great novelists of our time. Anybody read him? I had never heard of him.
