I know a lot of people don't like Hemingway but even these people say they prefer his short stories.

How common is Heimingway's use of his Iceberg Theory/theory of omission within his short stories?

I know it is in Hills like White Elephants, I could even pick up on it while reading it, but didn't know it was in the short stories Big Two-Hearted River parts 1 and 2. I enjoyed the stories throughout but didn't once pick up on something being omitted but instead was always waiting for something else to happen besides a very comfortable description of camping. If you haven't read these two stories don't read this spoiler. No really, and don't look it up either Apparently the boy who is camping just came back from war. Not once in the story is there a reference to war that I can even pick up on besides, possibly, him referring to past camping trips with his friends when he was younger and how things had changed. He doesn't mention for example a wound he has, doesn't mention ever being in Europe as far as I can remember, and never directly says the word 'war'.

Just his short stories. Also what do you think of this style?
