Pechorin is one of the only "flawed protagonists" which I actually felt angry at. Narcissism kino.

Should I get this translation or is Nabokov's translation better?

I have never self-identified with a character to such a degree as with Pechorin and Grushnitsky. Does anyone know of a similar book?

Doesn't Whatever by Michel Houellebecq really remind anyone else of pic related, but set in modern time? It just feels like the main character in Whatever is basically a modern day Pechorin.
Is Houellebecq actually a reincarnated 19th-century russian?

Thoughts on Lermontov's Hero of Our Time? A masterpiece in it's own right or merely a dry run for later Russian greatness?
