What's the best translation of the Bible for a new reader? I went with the KJV at first but I feel like this is best suited for later reads, once I've got the outlines of the stories down. Right now, my unfamiliarity with the language is rendering some of the passages incomprehensible.

Being realistic, I'm not gonna read all of this. And I've hesrd it's unwise to read it cover to cover. Which Books are the most important? Which should I start with (other than Genesis)?

I'm new the reading, the last books I have read are Red Rising, Mistborn and blood song(all fantasies) and an old biography of Will Rogers. What I've learned so far is that fantasy is pretty much gay and doesn't pull my interest. Due to this I have an urge to read fiction, lately I have been interested in early England viking era history and Jesus times history; but since I am new I am taking any recommendations fiction as well, just please don't link me stuff written by liars and you know what I'm talkin bout.
